Some records and photos of social activities of Gorton Machine Employees

There is no particular/specific ordering of these

• New recreation room announcement (newspaper and date unknown)
• Bowling scores - newspaper and date unknown. This was among some of the personal items of Charles Gorton.
• Opening night (Nov. 27, 1937) of the recreation hall.

  In the right hand photo:
  At the card table at the left front, George III is in the middle. Over on the right side of the photo, George II is the 'old-man'. Just behind his left shoulder is his son Charles, with Dorothy, Charles' wife just to his right. Katherine, George II's 2nd wife, is just behind Charles wearing a hat. To Dorothy's right is James. Behind James' right shoulder is Dorothy, George III's wife. To her right, facing James (right profile to the camera) is Marjorie, James' wife. George II's daughter Betty, and her husband Ken do not seem to be in the photo. The identities of all others in the photo are unknown.

  Individuals unknown, except for George II Since there is a "75th birthday plaque" of 'the old man', it means the photos were taken after 1940.
  
• Photo, believed to be that of Peter Henkes, date unknown
  
• Local veterans (employees on active duty?) visit the plant, sometime in WW II
  No obvious clues as to the year.
  
• Service Award Dinners programs. Copies of the programs for a number of these annual events, from the first one in 1957, up to the 1972 award dinner.
• Walter Tomlinson's retirement party Aug. 22, 1958. At the first service award dinner (March 30, 1957) Walter was a speaker. A newspaper article from August 24, 1958 indicates that Walter will retire from the company on Sept. 1, after 32 years of service. The party took place on Friday, August 22, and was held at Johnson Park. Walter joined the company in 1926, was made treasurer in 1932, elected secretary-treasurer in 1942, and vice president in 1955.

	A farewell card for Walter. A guess is that he was an avid bike rider.
